What makes a rug look and feel beautiful, stunning, quiet, comfortable, dramatic, edgy, graceful...?

In our showroom, working with design professionals and their clients, we often find ourselves searching for words to describe what we are seeing in, and feeling about, a handmade rug.

Together, we are trying to convey these feelings and ideas, so that we can move forward and determine exactly what the design professional and her client want, need, and desire in a handmade rug.

This process of communication and discovery can be one of the most interesting parts of the design process. Often, the homeowner will have had very little experience with handmade rugs and can feel apprehensive when making a decision to purchase. We have found, however, that when we clearly explain the fundamentals of any handmade rug, when we talk through the process step-by-step, the clients anxiety often turns into excitement and appreciation for the amazing craftsmanship and artistry that these rugs represent.

At J. Asher, we take our responsibility to educate and demystify handmade rugs for our clients very seriously, but with a lot of fun!

This design is a vegetal dyed 'Mamluk' style in reds, blues, and greens. Originally from Egypt, the mamluk style is dynamic and exciting, and fits into our transitional and eclectic design styles today.
