Setting an Installation Date

When our installer receives your carpet, we will work with you and your designer to come up with the best time to install your carpeting. The installation will create some inconvenience, so it should be done on a day when you are somewhat flexible. And, if anyone in your home is particularly sensitive to dust or has allergies, they may want to stay out of the house the day of installation.

Removal of old

If you already have wall-to-wall carpeting, J. Asher will remove and dispose of all old material unless otherwise noted. The carpet tack strip that has been installed may be used again if it is in good shape as determined by our installers. If it is deemed unusable, we will replace it with new at no charge to you. Existing metal or wood trim pieces, mouldings, and transitions will be discussed.

Removing Furniture

Furniture will be removed from the rooms receiving new carpeting. Your help in moving fragile pieces is necessary. Please remove all breakable items such as vases, lamps, pictures, collectables, china, and dishes. It is always best not to have carpet technicians handle breakable items. In bedrooms, please strip the beds and remove all items from the bottom of closets. All electronic equipment is to be unhooked and moved out of the work area by you. Special furniture and other items need to be discussed prior to installation day.

Additional Fees

J. Asher takes particular care to ensure that any additional costs are reviewed with you and your designer. It is our policy to inform both of you regarding any additional costs before the installer arrives and not during the installation. The exception to this policy may be unforeseen problems that only arise after the existing flooring has been removed to expose conditions that are not suitable for your new carpeting to be installed. Should this occur, you will be notified before we continue with the job as additional charges may be incurred.

Doors, Moldings, and Baseboards

When preparing to install your carpeting, the installers may remove your doors. Sometimes the carpet you have chosen will require that the doors be resized. You will need to have an outside carpenter to correct this problem. The same could be true of the baseboards and moldings if the carpet or pad height has changed. In addition, it is likely that we will make some minor marks and scratches on the baseboards and lower walls. We suggest that you keep some paint for touchup behind us.

Left over Carpeting

Generally there will be left over carpeting. We are very careful to order the proper amount required including pattern repeats, door drops, and proper seaming. Quite oten we will discuss the options with you or your designer but we will not leave our installers short of carpeting. If any remnants remain, they can be left with you or disposed of by us at your discretion.

Adhesives

On some surfaces, installers may use adhesives for "direct glue" or "double stick" methods of installation. These may have an odor. J. Asher uses products that are in keeping with the strictest standards to ensure that there are no excessive VOCs. The odors are safe, though sometimes unpleasant, and will dissipate rapidly depending on the airflow in your space.

Electricity

We will assume that we can use your power for our electrical tools. If not, please notify us in advance.

Carpet Seams

In most installations you will have seams. Today's heat bonded seams are generally stronger than the rest of the carpet -but- they are not invisible. Even though our installers are very skilled and experienced, you will be most likely be able to see the seams, at least from certain angles or lighting. The location of the seams will be discussed, if necessary, and will be strategically placed to minimize their appearance whenever possible.

Matching Patterns

Due to the nature of carpet and textile manufacturing, some patterns are impossible to match perfectly. You can be assured that our installers are trained to do the best job possible with any given carpet.

Color Changes

Today's high luster fibers reflect different colors depending on the room lighting, wall and ceiling coloring, and viewing direction. These changes are normal, should be expected, and are there to add interest and depth from a design perspective.
